“ She was my driving force — I knew I needed to give her a better life ,” Walden said .
There were times when Walden thought of hanging up her uniform but , as a single mother , she knew what she needed to do to provide for her child .
“ I had a lot of strong women behind me , supporting me and saying ‘ you can do this ,’” she added . “ Looking at her face and knowing she ’ s depending on me solely , you can ’ t quit . What would I be teaching her later in life if I just quit ?”
In 2007 , Walden decided she was ready to get out of the Army but she said God had other plans for her when she returned to the states .
