PHOTO CONTRIBUTED After a 20-year career in the Army , spending time with family is what Laura Walden is all about .
substitute in the Laurel County School District , then the COV- ID-19 pandemic hit . After taking a year off with her son , Walden took a job working for the state as a veteran ’ s representative in Somerset where she worked for seven months .
“ Then , I did some soul searching and I was like ‘ I really need to come home to my family ,’” she said . “ I was driving to Somerset every day so I was still really missing out on my kids .”
Now , at 40 years old , Walden works part-time at Powerhouse gym at the front desk and as a high-intensity training instructor , where she uses a lot of the values she learned while in the Army .
