Now imagine the celebrations and events held throughout that year by religious worldwide: a year of gratitude in remembering the past, igniting the present with passion, and looking with humble hope toward a future in which that consecrated life will continue in new and different ways, spiraling outward like an intricately woven web. Pope Francis has proclaimed 2015 as the Year of Consecrated Life (YCL)—a year to express gratitude to committed religious and to encourage others to consider religious life—observed from Nov. 30, 2014–Feb. 2, 2016. As one of the earliest congregations of religious sisters in the Midwest, the Sisters of Charity, BVM of Dubuque, Iowa, have embraced the Year of Consecrated Life with characteristic vigor.
