and deal with challenges of living. Last is Ligaya, which is associated with
happiness, pride, satisfaction –the by-product of a life with sigla, gana and gaan.
Guided by the Ginhawa approach to mental health promotion, UPD PsycServ
gives importance to nurturing resilience and growth among students, faculty and
staff while also addressing their risks and vulnerabilities. This orientation is
fleshed out in a 6-component program of services: Direct Psychotherapy,
Learning Workshops, Development of Policies, Systems and Procedures,
Consultations, Research, and Advocacy.
After more than two years of service, UPD PsycServ has become a go-to place in
the UP Diliman campus among students, faculty and staff for growth and well-
being concerns, as well as for diagnostic and treatment issues. The Ginhawa
Framework and its accompanying program are regarded in professional and
government summits as a promising model for integrating mental health into the
educational system.
PsycServ aims to become an office within the UPD structure and is also growing
to become a movement that promotes mental health and well-being. It continues
to be run by a core staff of clinicians, but its services are increasingly becoming
multi-disciplinal, with support coming from the people that it serves and works
with.
