rivers or 18 major river basins. Subsequently, the Phil-LiDAR 1 program covered
the remaining river systems in the country by tapping state universities and
colleges and private higher education institutions nationwide in the processing,
validating, and modeling of LiDAR data.
DREAM data must be used in line with regulations set in a Memorandum of
Agreement between the Department of Science and Technology and UP Diliman,
but there are opportunities for the technology to be used commercially through
UP DREAM Commercial Services.
The DREAM Phil-LiDAR technology and the experts who collect and analyze
the data for the project help save lives and mitigate the impact of typhoons by
providing valuable geoinformation that allows partners and collaborators to make
strategic decisions and plans for disaster response.

The World Risk Index 2018 ranked the Philippines third among 171 countries
vulnerable to extreme natural events in terms of both exposure to and
preparedness for calamities.
This project was launched to update the National Building Code of the
Philippines to enhance building regulations as a way of mitigating increasingly
catastrophic and chronic risks. By ensuring that infrastructure abides by stricter
and more updated standards, the project aims to save lives and reduce the
likelihood of damage to property during disasters.
The researchers propose a new Philippine Building Act to replace and update the
National Building Code of the Philippines, as well as updates to the implementing
rules and regulations of Presidential Decree 1096. The Philippine Building Act
proposal was developed through year-long multi-stage, multi-platform, and multi-
sectoral stakeholder consultations to ensure that a wide range of insights are
