ABOUT SALIKSIKHAY
The University of the Philippines, under its Charter of 2008 (R.A. 9500), is
mandated to serve as a research university in various fields of expertise and
specialization by conducting basic and applied research, promoting research and
development, and contributing to the dissemination and application of
knowledge; and to lead as a public service university by providing various forms
of community, public and volunteer service, as well as scholarly and technical
assistance to the government, the private sector, and civil society while
maintaining its standards of excellence. Towards this end, the University of the
Philippines (UP) Diliman presents SALIKSIKHAY: Pagdiriwang ng Dangal at
Kahusayan sa Saliksik, Malikhaing Gawa, at Ekstensiyon, a two-day conference
and poster exhibition showcasing research, creative, and extension work outputs
of the University.
SALIKSIKHAY, a combination of the words “saliksik” and “sikhay”, which
respectively translate to “research” and “diligence”, encapsulates UP Diliman’s
passion in research that goes beyond creation of knowledge. SALIKSIKHAY
celebrates interdisciplinary collaboration through the different research, creative,
and extension work outputs of the University. It features works in eight clusters,
namely: education and culture, disaster risk reduction and resiliency,
environmental protection, food and agriculture, housing and infrastructure,
advanced science and technology, transport solutions and energy, and health and
wellness.
SALIKSIKHAY aims to show that such research, creative, and extension works
of the University have a positive impact to society, thereby encouraging
collaboration among different disciplines and institutions, and it is through this
impact that the University, through its academic excellence, fulfills its role in
national development and social responsibility.
