Construction on New Townhouse
It was a busy and productive year of construction at 15 East 88th Street. The project, to create optimal teaching and learning spaces in the fourth Cutting townhouse, has a projected opening in late 2027. Here’ s a rundown of the progress to date:
November 18, 2025: Saint David ' s Board of Trustees voted on a general contractor for the 15 E. 88th St. project. As a result of this vote, the school selected DHI Construction as the lead contractor. DHI ' s vision and prior experience working on several New York City private school renovation projects, including Regis High School, Loyola School, and Fordham Prep, made them the most appropriate fit for our construction needs.
February 18, 2026: After receiving all approvals and obtaining the General Contractor construction permit from the Department of Buildings, DHI began work onsite at 15 E. 88th St.
March 23, 2026: Excavation work began in the rear yard of 15 E 88th St. This work marked the first phase of building the interior walkway that will connect 15 E. 88th St. to 12 E. 89th St. This walkway, a " brunnel "( bridge-tunnel), is being built directly into the rear yard of 15 E. 88th St., and will connect to the bridge portion of the walkway at 16 E. 89th St. over Hyman Hall.
April 6, 2026: Following Saint David ' s Spring Break, the construction team sealed the rear yard to ensure it was available for student use and events through the end of the 2025-26 school year.
Spring 2026: Onsite at 15 E. 88th St., work continued on the interior of the building, including but not limited to demo, masonry, carpentry, and framing.
Summer 2026: Townhouse renovation / repurposing continued and the tunnel portion of construction to connect 88th and 89th Street buildings was substantially completed.
When complete, the entire Saint David’ s School campus will comprise 122,000 square feet of continuous space, including an enlarged backyard. The project is part of the Inspire. Deepen. Prepare. Strategic Initiative which also includes funding for our Teaching Boys Initiative at Saint David’ s School™ and the continuation of our commitment to socioeconomic diversity.
View of the 355-ft bridge / tunnel( brunnel) under construction. The brunnel will run from 16 East 89th St. across the top of Hyman Hall and under the backyard of 15 East 88th St., seamlessly connecting our new townhouse to the Saint David’ s campus.
