inhabitants. A group of engineers worked tirelessly to craft
rollercoasters from strips of paper. They decided the city
should have an amusement park, why not?
As the boys pursued their goals, they encountered
challenges: this bridge wobbled, that policeman’s clay body
was too heavy for his pipe cleaner legs. Deeply invested in
their work, they made revision after revision. They also
collaborated extensively, each new creation inspiring friends
to add, build on, embellish their own or their friends’ work.
As new ideas emerged, such as a need for vehicles, we
introduced new materials to match pace with the boys’
creativity: K’nex building sets, and then wooden car
kits, which the boys built, then souped up, and finally
painted with dayglow paints. Once they each had a car,
new roads were needed, and soon bridges, tunnels, and
skyways emerged from strips of cardboard, as did a new
parking structure.
Each idea and creation became a springboard for
new ideas!
