STANLEY LIVINGSTON
When Stanley Livingston stepped on campus for his first day at Saint David ' s, the familiar grounds were already home.“ My father had worked here for 19 years and I remember the pride he took in painting the hallways,” he shared.“ Before I joined, he( my dad) would always talk about how everyone treated him well and what a great place this was. As I came to learn, he was right.”
And although much has changed from January 1998 to the present day, Mr. Livingston, affectionately known by many as ' Stan ' sees several similarities within the walls of East 89th,“ Great people, great people,” he echoed.“ From Mark Poelle to Esther Formosa, and from Ramona Arias to Vita Russo, it ' s the relationships that make a difference.” With a daily scooter / train commute from Bridgeport, CT to the Upper East Side, the bonds are what keeps him coming back.
In 2004, there was a key moment that Stan points to as an important shift when Dr. O ' Halloran assumed the Headmaster position.“ He( Dr. O ' Halloran) made a point of knowing everyone ' s name, and you could see the importance placed on getting to know everyone, genuine care. That set a foundation.” Over 20 years later, that sense of care remains an institutional pillar.“ The focus and emphasis on community is the best part about the school,” he concluded.
ROSEMARIE ALFIERI
The heart of Saint David’ s is rooted in connecting the best of its past and present.“ We honor traditions, but we’ re always looking towards the future.” Twenty-eight years ago, Mrs. RoseMarie Alfieri was introduced to a part-time opportunity within the Development office, primarily in leading the Saint David’ s Magazine. And although the role was new to Mrs. Alfieri, the school certainly was not.
Her husband, Michael’ 75, and brothers-in-law Tony’ 73 and John’ 71, were proud graduates and also the sons of June Nigro Alfieri, a former nursery teacher- and one of the founding faculty members of Saint David’ s.“ She( June) loved the school and was very active and innovative in the formative years,” RoseMarie shared.“ Her affinity for the school inspired the next generation to follow.”
The timing of the institutional need for a highquality publication coincided with the Golden Jubilee celebration of the 50th anniversary. When Headmaster Don Maiocco offered her the position in 1998, the timing was kismet, commencing a run of 21 years as the Publications and Communications Director within the Development department, and the past 7 + within the Strategic Communications office. When asked what the best part of Saint David’ s is, RoseMarie identified a constant:“ The shared values,” she stated.“ It’ s a joyful environment and we are purposeful in our mission. As we continue to evolve, the affirmation of best practices puts us in a unique position as a leader in boys’ education- today, and in the future ahead.”
