Level 3 : Stroke Development
For Intermediate Swimmers Ages : 5 +
The objectives of Stroke Development Level 3 are to expand proficiency of previously learned skills by providing additional guided practice . Participants learn and practice survival floating and learn to swim front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary proficiency levels . We begin introduction of the scissors and dolphin kicks and extend the time duration for treading water . Participants also learn rules for headfirst entries and begin to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at poolside . As in all levels , new and previously addressed water safety topics are included . Participants who successfully complete Level 3 have achieved basic water competency in a pool environment .

Level 4 : Stroke Improvement ( equivalent to Pre-Fins Beginner Novice )
A technique focused swimming class Ages : 5 +
In Stroke Improvement Level 4 , participants improve their aquatic skills and increase their endurance by swimming the strokes learned in Level 3 ( i . e ., front crawl , elementary backstroke ) for greater distances and with more advanced proficiency . Participants add arm actions to the previously learned scissors kick and breaststroke kick to perform the rudimentary sidestroke and to learn the breaststroke . Participants also begin to learn the back crawl and butterfly , as well as the basics of performing a simple open turn at a wall .

Pre-Fins Group
Ages : 5-10
Pre-fins is a great way to keep your child active this year while introducing them to Dolphin Club swim team program ! Practices are run as a hybrid between a swim team practice and group swim lessons . This gives the swimmers more personal attention from our coaches to improve their strokes , while also giving them a taste of the competitive swimming world . We will be holding fun intra-squad meets at the JCC throughout the year . The Pre-fins program emphasizes learning , fitness , and fun !
Pre-Fin swimmers will learn the basics of all 4 competitive strokes in an encouraging atmosphere . The coaches focus on teaching proper stroke technique , introducing starts and turns , and developing the joy of swimming using games , activities , and challenges . The interpersonal skills necessary to compete in the sport of swimming will also be taught – working with teammates , following directions , listening to the coaches , and having fun . We will wrap up each session with a fun intrasquad swim meet held at the Weinstein JCC . This will give each swimmer a taste of the excitement and fun of competing in a real swim meet !
Pre-Fins Practice Recommendations : 2 practices a week are recommended but not required . Each practice session lasts 45 minutes . Swimmers can expect to work up to swimming 500 to 1,000 yards per practice session .
Pre-requisite for the Pre-Fin Group : Able to complete a 25-yard freestyle and backstroke without assistance

Dolphin Club Swim Team

Exciting things are happening at the Weinstein JCC with our Dolphin Club Swimming program ! Through the “ Fin Family ,” athletes can experience competitive swimming in an environment that fosters self-confidence , teaches patience , and encourages positive relationship-building . Plus , families now have the flexibility of month-to-month payments !

Level 1 Dolphin
Level 1 is our introductory Dolphin group for 9- to 12-year-old swimmers as well as advanced 7- 8-year-old swimmers . The Dolphin Group focuses on teaching the basics of all 4 competitive strokes and starts and turns in a fun , challenging environment . Coaches will emphasize proper stroke technique , starts , and turns , and building cardiovascular endurance through drills , sets and enjoyable activities . Coaches will work on the interpersonal skills necessary to compete in the sport of swimming – working with teammates , following directions , listening to the coaches , and having fun .
Dolphin Club recommends that Level 1 swimmers participate in monthly area swim meets to assess their progress .
Dolphin Practice Recommendations : 3 to 4 practices a week are recommended but not required . Each practice session lasts 1 hour . Swimmers can expect to work up to swimming 1,500 to 2,500 yards per practice .
Pre-requisites for the Level 1 Dolphin Group : 7 – 8-year-old swimmers must be legal in 3 of 4 strokes , and perform legal starts and turns
9 – 12-year-old swimmers must be able to complete a 25 yd freestyle & backstroke without assistance
Practice Schedule : Sundays , 2:45 - 3:45 PM Mondays – Thursdays , 4:00 - 5:00 PM

Level 2 Wahoo
Level 2 Wahoo Group is designed for swimmers with previous swim team experience who are legal in all four strokes , know how to perform all starts & turns , as well as read the pace clock . The Wahoo Group will continue to work on stroke technique while introducing race strategies in practice by learning and performing strokespecific drills during practice . Training will begin to include a focus on longer distance events and IMs . Coaches will introduce race strategies and techniques used by swimmers in the next level practice group and continue to emphasize the importance of working with teammates , following directions , listening to the coaches , and having fun . Coaches will work with swimmers to understand and use USA Swimming time standards to set & achieve personal goals using interval training in practice . DC recommends participation in monthly swim meets with a focus on qualifying at the end of the season for regional and state championship meets .
Wahoo Practice Recommendations : 4 to 5 practices a week are recommended but not required . Each swim practice session lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes . Swimmers can expect to work up to swimming 3,000 yards per practice .
