Issue 14.2 Solutions that effectively pay for themselves. Saftronics recently completed a project were the sole purpose of the project outcome was energy saving, while still obtaining optimal operating time. Our clients’ plant is a plastic manufacturing facility which by its nature is a very energy demanding process, hence the need for our expertise. With the help of a power analyser, power quality issues were addressed. And our Saftronics “Chief” range of VFD’s were installed on 5 of the 17 plastic injection moulding machines, by doing this the VFD allows the motor to run at a lower frequency when less power is required (when the load is lower) and ramps the motor up when demand increases (when the load increases). The end result was a reliable retrofit to our clients machines and a clear energy saving was recorded as depicted in the adjacent graphs.
