The Saffron Walden CCA
St Mary ’ s Parish Church
The Saffron Walden CCA is the Conservative Party organisation in our local area . Based in Museum Street Saffron Walden , it houses our existing Member of Parliament and acts as a contact point for the public , allowing a point of contact for both the Conservative Party and Member of Parliament locally . The offices are open to the public from 9am till 4:30pm - Monday to Friday . The Member of Parliament also holds monthly surgeries both at our offices and throughout the rest of the constituency .
The Association is managed entirely by its members , of which there are over 1000 locally who elect a committee to run the Association , and manage their local Branch which corresponds to their local District or City Council Ward depending whether they live in Uttlesford or the City of Chelmsford . Each Branch of the Saffron Walden CCA is then responsible for selecting their local Council candidates who , if elected , will represent their towns and villages on their respective Councils locally as Conservatives .
Members have full Party voting rights and not only have the power to select who manages the Association , their local branch and local Council candidates but play a role in the selection of our Parliamentary candidate and have a vote to decide who is Leader of the Conservative Party nationally .
Saffron Walden CCA membership enables people to take part in the Conservative Policy Forum , which helps decide what our policy is nationally . Our CPF is one of the best in the country having been awarded for its work for the Party .
Representatives from businesses across the district attended a networking event put on as part of the inaugural Uttlesford Business Awards .
Uttlesford District Council played host to the event on Monday , March 20 , at its offices in Saffron Walden , with sponsors Stansted Airport and the council coming to show their enthusiasm and support for the project .
This is the first year of the awards - and local businesses are encouraged to nominate themselves for a wide variety of categories and celebrate their success .
The council is supporting the awards and is sponsoring the New Business of the Year category . For anyone interested in entering the Uttlesford Business
Fundraising is another key task of the Saffron Walden CCA . The Conservative Party locally is funded by its members and the Association and its branches hold many excellent social functions throughout the year to help support the Party and this fundraising supports the bulk of our election campaigning alongside membership subscriptions .

St Mary ’ s Parish Church is an ancient and beautiful place of worship at the heart of Saffron Walden and everyone is encouraged to visit the church to find out more about it ’ s interesting past and see the current activities and future plans .
The church is the largest in Essex , with an overall length of 183 feet , whilst the height of the tower and spire is 193 feet . The massive Norman stone church was known to exist in 1130 and was rebuilt and enlarged between 1250 and 1258 ; a general rebuilding in the ‘ Perpendicular ’ style was begun in about 1450 . The spire , however , is more modern and the upper part of the tower was renewed in 1832 . With its great arches in the nave and high clerestory windows , it truly is an amazing space .
Through all these changes the people of Saffron Walden have worshipped here and in the present day the church is home to a thriving congregation as well as being the venue for many civic and cultural events . The congregation gathers for a range of services on Sundays and there is at least one service on every other day of the week . There are many other activities going on at St Mary ’ s , in the Church , in the adjacent Parish Rooms or in people ’ s homes . These activities cater for all age groups and include : choirs and music groups , Brownies , book groups and bell ringing .
Services range from cathedral to café style and there is a strong musical tradition that includes an excellent robed choir . Information on services and events can all be found on the church website ( www . stmaryssaffronwalden . org ) and this also provides regularly updated

This was one of more than 950 locations to be involved in the collective expression of commitment of information on church activities . The church is open daily ( from around 8.30am until dusk ) to welcome visitors to a place where the Christian faith has been celebrated for over 800 years .
