Make surgery safer ...
Surgery is a global business: 234 million operations take place each year - more than the number of babies born - and that figure is only set to rise.
But not all operation theatres are created equal.
In low-resource setting countries, lack of appropriate
equipment and training means that surgery is desperately unsafe.
Risk of anaesthesia mortality is 100 to 1000 times higher than in the US or UK, and a life-saving operation quickly becomes a life-threatening one.
Lifebox Foundation is the only global health charity
dedicated to making surgery safer.
With your organization’s support we can do so much more.
... worldwide, and raise your organization’s profile in the fight against the global health crisis of the 21st century.
Lifebox distributes essential equipment (pulse oximeters) and training (in oximetry and the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist) to healthcare workers in operation theatre worldwide where surgery is
taking place without vital monitoring or basic safety checks. This dual intervention is proven to reduce the risk of surgical complications, infections and hypoxic episodes by nearly 50%.
There are an estimated 70,000 operation theatres currently delivering surgery without oximetry monitoring. Lifebox is going to close that gap, alongside the education and training that will make a permanent change.
There are four tiers of support with a variety of attractive enefits, depending on your preferred level of engagement.
Corporate Supporters are confirmed for a full year, and companies that commit to multi-year support are eligible for
further benefits.
Access to safe surgery is essential at every level of a
healthcare system, and each tier is named after a different aspect of surgical services.

Papua New Guinea
These cheerful colleagues at Vanimo Hospital in Papua New Guinea benefited from our collaboration with the Australian Society of Anaesthesia to bring oximeters and training to hospitals across PNG during 2012.
Thanks to this joint effort, all PNG public hospitals are now providing safer surgery for their patients.
