The first survey was conducted in Spring 2024 . There were two parts to the survey : an interactive map and a standard question and answer format . The following information provides a summary of the data collected .
Top Outcomes of Interest
• 91 % of participants live in Arlington .
• More than 96 % of participants typically drive an automobile .
• Nearly half feel safe walking during the daytime but only 6.3 % feel safe walking at night . Less than five percent think Arlington is a safe place for riding a bicycle .
• Variety of responses on how to prioritize investments in transportation , but 42 % support enforcement of existing laws .
Biggest challenges related to transportation safety :
• Unsafe driving behaviors ( 73 %)
• Maintenance of roads , sidewalks and multiuse pathways ( 53 %)
• Enforcement ( 48 %)
What would encourage people to prioritize their safety on the road as well as the road around them ?
• Stronger enforcement of laws ( 68 %) *
• Slowing speeds through road design changes and speed limit setting ( 56 %)
* While survey respondents support enforcement , public meeting attendees tended to oppose these activities .
