Shared-Use Path
Shared-use paths or trails are off-street facilities that provide exclusive use for nonmotorized travel , including bicyclists and pedestrians . They could be located alongside a roadway , or exist in a separate right-ofway . Bike paths have minimal cross flow with motorists and can be utilized for both recreational and commute trips .
Bike Lane
Bike lanes designate an exclusive space for bicyclists using pavement markings and signage . The bike lane is located adjacent to motor vehicle travel lanes and flows in the same direction as motor vehicle traffic . Bike lanes are typically on the right side of the street , between the adjacent travel lane and curb , road edge , or travel lane .
