Meniscal damage is detected when the meniscus has changes in its size, shape
echogenicity or position relative to the femoral condyles and proximal tibia.
Ultrasonography and arthroscopy are complimentary when evaluating the meniscus for
damage as some areas imaged sonographically are not visible arthroscopically and the
converse is also true.
