lameness referable to joints in horses. They should not however be used for so-called ‘joint health maintenance programmes’ as the risk of doing harm is real. At the same time, we are in the middle of an interesting era for development for of intra-articular therapies. This provides a number of exciting therapeutic opportunities for practicing veterinarians; however, this expansion of options leads to undoubted confusion and uncertaintity as there is currently a lack of a good evidence-base with regard to making an appropriate choice of intraarticular therapy. Whilst we do have a wide choice of treatments, it is likely that several of those currently available will not last the test of time, and will ultimately be found to lack clinical efficacy.
