lameness referable to joints in horses. They should not however be used for
so-called ‘joint health maintenance programmes’ as the risk of doing harm is
real.
At the same time, we are in the middle of an interesting era for development
for of intra-articular therapies. This provides a number of exciting therapeutic
opportunities for practicing veterinarians; however, this expansion of options
leads to undoubted confusion and uncertaintity as there is currently a lack of a
good evidence-base with regard to making an appropriate choice of intraarticular therapy. Whilst we do have a wide choice of treatments, it is likely
that several of those currently available will not last the test of time, and will
ultimately be found to lack clinical efficacy.
