joints, and (3) to determine serum and synovial fluid SAA levels of normal equine joints and osteoarthritic joints. Platelet-rich product was prepared from 10 horses using a gravity filtration system, namely Equine Platelet Enhancement TherapyTM (E-PET, Pall Corporation, Port Washington, NY). Horses consisted of two groups, OAaffected group (n=5) and control group (n=5). Joints included were metacarpophalangeal and carpal joints. Clinical assessments, cytologic analysis of synovial fluid and complete blood counts were performed at day 1, 2, 5, 21 and 56 after injection. Platelet-rich product composition and growth factor content (PDGF and TGF-β) were analyzed. The gravity filtration system produced a moderately concentrated Platelet-rich product. At day 1 after injection, all Platelet-rich treatments caused a significant increase in synovial WBC concentration and neutrophil percentage. Platelet-rich product can safely be used to treat equine joints. A Platelet-rich product can be prepared using a gravity filtration system, eliminating the need for centrifugation.
