Internship Academy (Ages 14–17)
Coastal Explorer Camp
(Ages 10–12)
Explore how scientists use models to study human impact on the coastal ecosystem. Use engineering skills
to assemble and operate a Remotely Operated Vehicle
(ROV). Take a 2-hour whale watching cruise and spend
another day fishing and collecting samples aboard our
R/V Sea Explorer. Campers also kayak in the harbor,
investigate the intertidal zone, and have a beach day!
Time:
9:00am to 4:00pm
Hours: 7 hours/day for 5 consecutive days

Sea Tech
(Ages 12–14)
Investigate technology and skills used by real ocean scientists! Daily activities focus on working in small teams
that construct and test a Remotely Operated Vehicle
(ROV) to participate in exciting challenges. Campers
also utilize sophisticated research instruments aboard
the R/V Sea Explorer, run local water tests, and examine
a sample of the sea floor.

Prepare for a marine science internship or career!
Explore intertidal ecology, animal husbandry, laboratory investigations, and shipboard research. Activities
include snorkeling, ROV workshop, research cruise
and leadership/team building. Successful graduates
may apply to intern with the Ocean Institute, conduct
a research project during the school year, and present
findings at our symposium. Participants must apply for
admission by submitting a program application and two
letters of recommendation.

DESTINATION CAMPS
Island Bound Camp
(Ages 11–13)
After a day of in-depth training at our facility, take a 3
day round-trip voyage to Catalina Island aboard the
schooner Spirit of Dana Point. Engage in sailing, navigation, rope work, science activities, kayaking, swimming
and snorkeling with our marine biologists and professional sailing crew. This voyage of discovery will be an
adventure to remember!
Time: Day 1 at Institute – 10:00am to 4:00pm
Days 2-4 at sea – Depart on day 2 at 8:00am
Return day 4 at 3:00pm

Tiny Tots: Parent & Me Program
(Mighty Mariners)
Children ages 2 to 3 years accompanied by an adult.
Join us for this six-week maritime-themed series of
exploration and play. Stretch your child’s imagination
through creative activities that support language development, social interaction, and problem solving.

9:30am to 10:45am

Lil’ Scallywags: Half-Day Program
(Ages 5–6)
Ahoy Mates! Little ones experience some sailor fun while
staying safe and sound on dry land. During this half-day
experience, tour a tall ship, listen to sea stories, make
maritime crafts, and participate in sailor activities on
our maritime wharf.
Time:
1:30pm to 4:00pm
Dates: June 24, July 8, Aug. 5, 19;
(August 22, 23; 9:00am to 11:30am)
