UPDATE on Partners:
Chicago Office
New Dollars/New Partners
Twelve congregations were chosen last fall to participate
in an interfaith New Dollars/New Partners training round,
sponsored by architect Nevin Hedlund, a Chicago
Advisory Board Member, who continues to attend
training modules and assist participating congregations.
The diverse group of historic congregations includes
the non-denominational Carr Memorial Chapel at the
Illinois Institute of Technology (designed by Mies van
der Rohe), Church of Our Saviour, Greater Englewood
Parish United Methodist Church, Hemenway United
Methodist Church (Evanston), Ingleside-Whitfield United
Methodist Church, Irving Park Baptist Church, Olivet
Baptist Church, Second Presbyterian Church, True Vine
Missionary Baptist Church, and Unity Temple (Oak Park).
The first day of training was held in November 2009
at Olivet Baptist Church with nearly 60 participants.
Hedlund introduced them to the process of assessing
buildings and completing conditions surveys. In January,
Luther Snow actively engaged participants in the assetmapping process during the second module. The twelve
congregations will complete their training this spring,
hosted by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple in Oak Park
and First United Methodist Church/Chicago Temple.
The Archdiocese of Chicago has generously sponsored a
second round of New Dollars training for twelve parishes,
scheduled to conclude in the spring of 2010. Catholic
Charities graciously opened their Chicago facility to
Partners, hosting each of the modules. Parishes currently
participating from Chicago include: Corpus Christi, Our
Lady of Peace, Queen of Angels, St. Benedict, St. Clare of
Interfaith New Dollars/New Partners trainee, Rev. Alice Greene
of Irving Park Baptist Church, participates in exercises during
Module IV at Unity Temple.
