Our journey begins with an 0400 rendezvous so we could pack all our gear and be on the road by 0430 . This is commonly referred to as “ dark and early ” or “ Are you @#$% kidding ?”.
No , we are not kidding . To bypass some of the areas affected by flooding and to beat the long weekend traffic out we had to be well on our way when dawn came . Our trip , including food , fuel , and rest breaks was estimated to be 12-13 hours barring any unexpected problems .
Such as vehicles overheating do to an extremely long climb on a mountain road . Thankfully nothing that a bit of a rest for them and us could not alleviate and we were once again able to resume our journey until at long last we made it to Grand
