Our journey begins with an 0400 rendezvous so we could pack all our gear and be on the road by 0430. This is commonly referred to as“ dark and early” or“ Are you @#$% kidding?”.
No, we are not kidding. To bypass some of the areas affected by flooding and to beat the long weekend traffic out we had to be well on our way when dawn came. Our trip, including food, fuel, and rest breaks was estimated to be 12-13 hours barring any unexpected problems.
