President’s Message
Training opportunities abound
Happy Holidays!
T
his edition focuses on SABI Training and career opportunities in the world
of agricultural and landscape irrigation. Indeed, SABI Training appears
to go from strength to strength, reflecting a need for technical skills in
irrigation. There is a profound shortage of skills in our sector, and, SABI Training
meets important needs for individuals and companies wanting to up their skill
levels and expand their professional path in irrigation. You will find the 2016
SABI Training Curriculum with this edition, do take time to peruse and plan you
and your company’s training for 2016. Spaces are booked fast on the courses
so don’t delay.
Along with our major training focus in
this edition of SABI magazine, we also
feature a report on the recent royal and
business Danish visit to South Africa. The
visit encompassed the water, energy and
food & agricultural sectors. Here in the
Western Cape, the delegation visited
a large variety of settings, ranging from
farms to a chocolate factory in Woodstock
to the Drakenstein water treatment plant
in the Paarl area. Danish companies are
clearly already extensively involved in
several sectors in South Africa. It is always
good to see other countries looking to
explore new or stronger partnerships
with us in South Africa, as they must see
potential here for trade and expansion.
We can only enhance our environments
by working together.
This will be my final message as
SABI President, and I will hand the
reigns over to Tony Ewels, our newly
elected SABI President for 2016-2018.
Congratulations are in order to Tony and
the new SABI Council, which will step into
place in 2016. I’d like to say a hearty
thank you to my fellow members of the
SABI Council for their support and hard
work, and to the management and staff of
SABI for all their hard work too. It’s been
a pleasure and a privilege to lead SABI at
Charles Cherry – Preside
nt
such an exciting time for the Institute, with
much growth in all directions now and
into the future.
Keep praying for good summer rains, we
desperately need these in many areas in
South Africa, we are all hoping for the
best - #rain must fall now!
I’d like to wish everyone and their
families a Merry Christmas and a
Prosperous New Year. Happy Holidays
to you and may 2016 be a very happy
year for all.
