How to... Step 4 Insert the trimming tool and close the clamps to butt the pipe ends against the cutting blade. ff Run the trimming tool until continuous shavings are achieved from both of the pipe ends ff Clean out all of the shavings after the trimming operation Step 7 Maintain the pressure for the correct “soak time” until a uniform bead of molten material is formed ff Soak time is obtained from the Time and Pressure table and is further dependent on the ambient temperature Step 8 Open the clamps and remove the heater plate ff Ensure that the plate does not drag over the heated surfaces Step 9 Immediately close the clamps to the scheduled pressure to form the butt weld joint ff Maintain the pressure for the minimum cooling time to complete the joint ff Do not move the pipe or welding machine during the cooling phase Step 5 Remove the trimming tool and close the clamps to check that there are no gaps between the weld faces Step 6 Open the clamps and insert the preheated heating plate between the joint faces and then close the clamps ff Ensure that the correct pressure is applied to the clamps (refer to the Time and Pressure tables) 28 SABI | DECEMBER 2015/JANUARY 2016 Step 10 Remove the clamping mechanism from the pipe and relocate to the next jo [
