President’s Message
Fitting focus
Our water responsibilities
A
s I take over the reins from Charles Cherry, I am indeed blessed to be
given the honour of joining the upper echelon of the slick and well-oiled
machine that SABI has become, thanks in no small part, to the efforts of
Charles and all the preceding Presidents as well as the incredible work done by
our GM Riana and her team.
This summer South and Southern Africa
has experienced, the worst drought in
decades, with some regions literally
running out of water before the end of
2015. It is therefore fitting that this issue
of SABI magazine is focussing on water
conservation, recycling and desalination.
The critical water shortage is highlighting
the fact that now, more than ever
before, we as water users have to take
responsibility in ensuring the optimum
usage of this ever decreasing resource.
The correct installation, maintenance and
monitoring of water meters, is a vital part
of this responsibility.
Tony Ewels– President
This issue also features the career and
achievements of one of the “Old Bullets”
of SABI, Jerry Rossiter, who together with
his colleagues did so much in laying the
foundation of SABI.
Our legend and stalwart of the PVC
industry, Mike de Villiers, continues with
his “How to” articles, this time on the
jointing and repair of asbestos cement
pipes.
Kudos to Carol and her talented team
for continuing to produce and improve
our magazine.
A host of regular information and articles
make up the balance of this issue, of what
has become a really classy, informative
showpiece of our industry.
Let us all make an effort to increase
the circulation by introducing it to
as many people, in and out of the
industry, as possible.
