How to connect a DN 110 PVC pipe to a DN 100 AC pipe Step 1 Gather the required equipment and materials ff Obtain a 109-128 coupling (use the selection tables to obtain the correct coupling size) ff Spanner to suit the nut sizes on the coupling ff Angle grinder with masonry cutting disc ff Marking pen ff Stiff nylon brush ff Dust mask and eye protection ff 110 mm PVC pipe of the correct pressure class and cut to the required length Step 2 Trim the AC and PVC pipes using the angle grinder ff Mark the cut line with the marking pen to ensure a square cut ff Use the dust mask and eye protection during the cutting procedure ff Clean the joint area using a stiff brush Step 3 Mark the depth of entry at half-way on one end of the joint ff This procedure applies to both the mechanical compression coupling and the SS repair clamp 32 SABI | FEBRUARY/MARCH 2016 Step 4 Insert the coupling up to the depth of entry mark Step 5 Insert the pipe to be connected Note that the AC pipe wall should not be shaved in order to create a prepared spigot Step 6 Evenly tighten the bolts to achieve a watertight joint • Note that this procedure applies to AC-AC, PVC-PVC, AC-PVC, AC-HDPE and HDPE-HDPE pipe connections.
