8 we do or may be more experienced in the field of interest. In the course of discussing with them, we get to understand much better than we could ever do, if we were working alone. Another example of the need to adapt would be the experience I got on reaching Germany. In such a society, learning the language is the key to adapting. One had to do everything possible to learn some basic German as soon as possible, at least, to help one identify and pick up some items from the supermarkets. This, as you may rightly guess, entailed beginning right from square one, the alphabet (A, B, C ...Z). Yeah, quite challenging isn't it, especially when one is beginning to go gray. Well, this basic knowledge of German has been helpful in several ways. Especially in daytoday communication .It has also opened up several doors; to interviews, scholarships, internships. Without some elementary language skills, life would most likely have been less interesting. Many may wonder - why Germany? That’s a good question. Well, to keep it short and simple, education in Germany is almost completely subsidized by the government! And students are entitled to free transportation within the town in which they are studying. Many wise people would agree with me this is really an uncommon advantage. Students only need to bother about health insurance, feeding and rents which, in total, presently amounts to approximately 600Euros/month (for wealthy students though). But remember, learning the language is the key to enjoying the plethora of opportunities this country offers. Those who are informed may also know that Germany is presently in increasing need of foreign skill workers, to keep the engines of its booming economy turning. Nothing good comes easy, so never give up. Always strive to be informed, on how to go about things (applications, jobs, scholarships etc.). Remember our lives are shaped by the opportunities which come our way and how our ability to make the best use of these opportunities. Next, always have an objective and a plan. Finally, dedicate quality time to meditating on God’s word. But the most important of all, is to practise God’s word.
