Now, I really value the discipline. They say
everything is relative, hence discipline. I
thought I was properly disciplined in
Lourdes, St. Bede's threw a whole new
curve ball. I suppose part of the reason is St.
Bede's is a boys and girls boarding school, as
opposed to Lourdes which is all-girls.
Something else I valued greatly was the
healthy academic competitive spirit we had
amongst students. We each pushed
ourselves to obtain better grades,
collaborated by studying together and
sharing past exam questions and papers.
The teachers equally encouraged us in ways
we may not have liked at the time - reading
grades aloud, "climbing khaki," publishing
results etc. Now we can have a debate on
whether these are appropriate....at the
time, it worked for me. I have no doubt it
worked for most of my mates.
3. What do you do today (work/study)?
I am currently an accountant (CPA in New
York State) at PricewaterhouseCoopers in
New York City. I work in the Transaction
Services department.
I basically assist companies with the
complex accounting and financial reporting
challenges that pertain to major
transactions. For example, I help companies
go public (list on an exchange), issue public
debt, assist in mergers and acquisitions,
spin offs etc. You'll be surprised at the
scope of services an accountant can
provide.
When people learn I am an accountant,
they automatically think I love numbers
(which I actually do), or that I know a lot
