had to go without food at break and even
trek on my return.
Finally, I had to quit and started on with a
part time job, returned to school for post
graduate studies so as to increase my
chances of getting my dream job…….. don’t
ask me what it is. Today when I look back, I
can say difficulties and hardship,
disappointments and frustrations, sorrows
and pains come to teach us, mould us and
prepare us for future challenges.
7. What advice do you have for students
who aspire to pursue your
career/academic path, and for current St.
Bede’s College students overall?
The words of Emeritus Christian Cardinal
Tumi to us during one of his
visits at school are still very vivid in my
mind; “pray as if everything depends
on God and study as if everything depends
on you” he said. These words bring
to light two issues, PRAYERS and HARD
WORK. I believe you can achieve
anything you want in life if only you pray
and work hard.
Hard Work: There is no food for a lazy man
as well as there is no “real”
sweet without sweat. It means one must
work to have anything to eat while
students must study to succeed in
examinations. Isn’t it normal therefore, that
those who work hard have more to eat
while those who study hard equally
have better results all things being equal?
When you study, your primary objective
should be to understand and know and not
to succeed in your examinations.
As a student the knowledge you get, is your
greatest possession and to some extent
your only true possession on earth. But
what knowledge do you need to have? Ask
yourself, what do I want to become in life?
If you have an answer, then ask what do I
need to study to become what I want?
Once you get it, ask what higher institutions
are accessible to me in Cameroon and
beyond to study this subject and excel in
life? You may not have the best
answers to these questions so seek help
from your parents, teachers and
other reliable sources.
Once you have clear answers to these
questions, follow your heart and move on
to study the subject and know it and let no
one ever tell you, you can’t make it,
because you can. Prayer: Yes you can, if you
add prayers to your hard work. Prayer was
the key for Christ to resist Satan and it
should be your key today against the
same Satan, because it will be the key till
thy kingdom come. Look around you
and tell me what you see.
As for me I see widespread jealousy, anger,
hatred, pride, killings and wars. One does
not need to be a magician or a prophet to
see that we live in a wicked world,
characterized by the spread of
homosexuality, the legalization of abortion,
the normalization of fornication
amongst us youths and adultery between
couples, bribery and corruption,
sects and immodest dressing habits. But
what explains all of these? There
