for Baccalaureate Nursing Students Captain Sean Grimes Nursing
Endowed Scholarship
This award is intended to encourage students
who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve
educational and professional goals, the motivation
to achieve these goals, and the initiative to seek
opportunities to further their progress. Established by his beloved family, this scholarship
honors Captain Sean Grimes (CON BSN ’97) who
was an exceptional student that graduated with
honors. He was the recipient of a Distinguished
Military Graduate Award from the Reserve Officers
Training Corps. Sean enlisted in the Army to make
a positive impact in the world. His life tragically
ended on March 4, 2005 when his armored Humvee
was hit by an improvised explosive device during
combat patrol in Ar Ramadi, Iraq. Sean had been in
Iraq for about six months when he was killed.
Recipients shall be undergraduate students in
the Michigan State University College of Nursing
Accelerated Second Degree Baccalaureate Program.

To help future students realize their dreams of
becoming a nurse, this scholarship provides financial
assistance to Michigan State University nursing
students who are an Army Reservist, Army National
Guard member, Active Army soldier or honorably
discharged veteran of these branches.

Inez and Gladys Harmon Endowed Scholarship
Inspired by the attentive and caring nurses at the
Michigan State University Oncology Center, this
scholarship was established by Laurence Harmon,
Professor Emeritus of Food Science and Human
Nutrition at Michigan State University. He created
this scholarship in loving memory of his wife, Inez,
and his sister, Gladys.

Janice and Alton Granger
Nursing Endowed Scholarship
Janice Granger (CON BSN ’80) is a valued member
of the College’s alumni family and has extensive ties
to the community and to the state of Michigan. She
and her husband, Alton (ENG BS ’54), have long
been supporters of Michigan State University and
the College of Nursing.
This scholarship provides financial assistance to
graduate students with a preference that their work
is focused in gerontology. Recipients must maintain
a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
This scholarship provides financial support to
students who have completed at least two years of
university academic credits with a minimum grade
point average of 2.75 and who have the professional
objective of becoming a registered nurse.
