60th Anniversary Endowed Scholarship Fund Helen Calder Endowed Nursing Scholarship
This scholarship was created to commemorate
the 60th Anniversary of Michigan State University
College of Nursing. The goal of this scholarship
program is to generate enough earnings from the
endowment to provide over $60,000 in scholarships
for deserving nursing students in need. With
challenging economic times and the reduction of
state support, these philanthropic gifts are more
critical than ever and will help our students realize
their dreams of receiving a nursing degree from
Michigan State University. This scholarship was created by Ralph Calder, an
architect who was involved in the design of 54
buildings on Michigan State University’s campus.
He established this endowed scholarship in memory
of his wife, Helen, with the intent of honoring the
nursing care that she received while battling a long
illness. It provides financial assistance to students
whose permanent residence is in the state of
Michigan and who have maintained a minimum 3.0
grade point average.
