runner (pun intended) for the OCAA
Provincial Championships, that took place
on Saturday October 26th. She has won
individual gold and is going to Nationals
on November 9th. As a team, the Vikings
women’s team has performed very well,
recently placing third at the Humber
College Invitational. The team is ranked
5th in Ontario. The men’s team improves
in each race, improving techniques and
times in the process.

eptember and October are extremely
busy months for St. Lawrence College
(SLC) Athletics & Recreation. With
Women’s and men’s cross country, rugby,
soccer, volleyball, and men’s golf all in
Ontario Colleges Athletics Association
(OCAA) regular season action, it can
be challenging keeping up with all nine
teams. Here is a quick glance of major
accomplishments the Vikings teams have
achieved thus far:
Cross country runner, Courtney Brohart, has
stolen the show so far this season, winning
gold in three out of four races (placing
Men’s rugby has competed well thus far,
currently sitting tied for third in the
OCAA East Division with a 2-2 record.
The Vikings recently defeated the Seneca
College Sting at home, for the first time in
program history. The women’s team shows
great potential for qualifying for a third
consecutive OCAA Playoff game, with a
2-2 record and is currently tied for second
in the OCAA East Division.
After winning only one game in 2012-13,
and not clinching the playoffs since 1997,
the Vikings men’s soccer squad qualified
for an OCAA Quarterfinal qualifier game
against the Seneca College Sting. The
Vikings would play their hearts out, and
gave the Sting a good scare, but fell 2-3.
The women’s team finished the season with
a 7-2 record, and defeated the Fanshawe
College Falcons, 2-1, in their OCAA
Quarterfinal game and advance to the
OCAA Provincial Championships.
Women’s and men’s volleyball teams will
play their first exhibition game against
an OCAA squad, the Loyalist College
Lancers, as both Vikings teams continue to
build their programs towards joining the
OCAA varsity loop in the future.
Major accomplishments for the Vikings
golf team include winning the Queen’s
University Invitational, the SLC TriCampus Cup, and finishing as the 11th
best College team in the Country at the
Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association
(CCAA) National Championship.
The Vikings qualified for the National
Championships, by winning a thrilling
playoff hole at the OCAA Provincial
Championships.
Both men’s and women’s basketball teams have
begun preparing for their regular season by
participating in various exhibition games
and tournaments. The Vikings hosted their
home opener against the Durham College
Lords on Wednesday October 30th. The
women’s game ended with a score of 79-61
with the men’s game finishing off with a
score of 93-66. A great start to the season.

Kingston Frontenacs season update
T
he 2013-14 Kingston Frontenacs
boast plenty of excitement. The
Fronts have been a consistent top
10 team this season in the CHL's national
rankings, they are currently ranked
number 2. The team has been delivering
on-ice wins with and an equally winning
in-game experience for fans at the Rogers
K-Rock Centre in Kingston.
This year's team is bolstered by a first
line of future NHL stars. Sam Bennett
and Spencer Watson are both expected
to figure prominently in the 2014 NHL
Draft. Line mate Henri Ikonen, one of
two Finnish imports playing in Kingston,
was selected by Tampa Bay this past July.
The team's defence is centered around
another prospect from the upcoming NHL
draft in Roland McKeown who has lead
the OHL in plus/minus for most of the
season. McKeown, Bennett, and Watson
came into the 2013-14 season having
anchored Canada's Gold Medal win a
the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament,
defeating Russia and the United States.
