Health & Safety Essentials

Please take a few moments to read the important health and safety rules for the Roodeplaat Dam Rowing Centre venue and the South African Schools Rowing Championships , and make sure that you stay healthy and safe throughout the event .

By entering the Roodeplaat Dam Rowing Centre premises , you agree to adhere to the safety rules and guidelines as set out below and declare that you accept being on the premises at your own risk . Furthermore , you indemnify Roodeplaat Dam Rowing Centre , organisers of the event , sponsors and officials against any claim of whatsoever nature and however arising , which may result from any activity on these premises .

Safety rules
1 . All team representatives must report to the Regatta Safety Officer for a safety briefing before you start . You will not be allowed to participate if you have not signed the attendance register at the safety briefing . The Safety Officer can be found at Regatta Control .
2 . All persons who enter the VLC premises are required to act responsibly and to do everything reasonably expected to prevent injuries to themselves and to other persons , and to prevent loss of equipment .
3 . Report all injuries promptly , no matter how minor , to the Safety Officer on site .
4 . Qualified lifeguards are on the water – if someone is in danger , signal for help or notify Regatta Control .
5 . Do not provide first aid if you do not have the qualification to do so . Emergency-Care is on site with qualified medical personnel located next to the control tower . They also have an ambulance on standby .
6 . In the event of an emergency that requires evacuation , the horn will be blasted continuously , and an Officer will announce evacuation over a loudspeaker . Proceed in an orderly manner towards the assembly points located in the main parking area . DO NOT RUN .
7 . Refer to the lightning protocol . Remember , when you hear the sound to alert you of lightning within a 10km to 15km radius , you must return to shore and find shelter immediately . Only seek shelter in a fully enclosed substantial building . This means the club house , a boat shed or ablution facilities . Do not seek shelter under trees , in small outdoor buildings , in open areas on or near water bodies .
8 . Do not use fire equipment if you are not trained to do so . 9 . Do not interfere in civil disturbances .
