The South African Institute of
Architects (SAIA)
SAIA is a voluntary association of affiliated
and regional institutes established in 1996.
SAIA is committed to maintaining the
highest standards of professionalism,
integrity and competence in architecture.
Members of the institute, registered as
professional architects, are educated and
trained to provide leadership, critical
judgement, specialist knowledge, skills and
aptitude for the design and development of
the built environment. Its Code of Ethics
establishes principles for the conduct of
members in pursuit of these goals.
Thermal Insulation Products
& Systems Association South
Africa (TIPSASA)
TIPSASA is a non-profit company that
consists of manufacturers, suppliers,
contractors and consultants in the South
African thermal insulation industry. The
association has been formed to assist with
the promotion, selection, specification and
installation of thermal insulation products
and systems and to combat the usage of
cheap substandard unsafe products and
practices. TIPSASA particularly focuses on
energy efficient products and systems within
the thermal insulation sector.
The Damp-proofing &
Waterproofing Association of
South Africa (DWASA)
DWASA is a national and international, non-
profit, representative body of the damp-
proofing and waterproofing industry in
Southern Africa intent on maintaining and
upgrading standards within these industries
for the benefit of its clients and members.
Membership is voluntary, with prospective
members having to prove their professional
approach to their trade over several years
before acceptance. DWASA’s primary role is
to promote the interests and views of its
members through its engagement with
government and legislative bodies as well as
like-minded bodies within the construction
industry.

Expanded Polystyrene
Association of Southern
Africa (EPSASA) The Corrosion Institute of
Southern Africa (CorrISA)
EPSASA represents expanded polystyrene
manufactures, raw material suppliers and
equipment suppliers in South Africa.
EPSASA’s mission is to promote and grow
the expanded polystyrene market. EPSASA
aims to achieve this by informing and
educating the public, as well as decision
makers and opinion formers on the public
and private sector on the benefits, multiple
uses and environmentally friendly nature of
expanded polystyrene products. The
association strives to ensure that the quality
and performance standards of its members
are world class through establishing and
monitoring standards.
The Copper Development
Association Africa (CDAA)
The CDAA has represented the local copper
industry in Southern Africa since 1962, and,
on behalf of its members, is committed to
promoting and expanding the use of copper
and copper alloys throughout Africa.
The Southern Africa Stainless
Steel Development
Association (Sassda)
Sassda is one of the most active stainless
steel industry associations in the world and
has, since 1964, been involved in increasing
the awareness and use of stainless steel in
southern Africa.
The organisation provides a platform for
Sassda members to collectively promote the
sustainable growth and development of the
industry with the main emphasis on
stainless steel converted within the South
African economy. Sassda also provides a
comprehensive list of services to its member
base including technical information and
advice, education, training and skills
upgrading, a range of publications and
marketing, industry and business
development support.
CorrISA serves a broad spectrum of
stakeholders with an interest in controlling
the impact of corrosion on asset lifecycles,
productivity and human life. Activities of the
institute aim to extend the recognition of
corrosion as a problem requiring specialised
attention and to promote standardisation in
corrosion control technology. CorrISA is
actively involved in promoting study and
scientific research into corrosion and
materials protection technology and
encourages reporting, discussion and
publication of corrosion experience
and knowledge.
The Construction Industry
Development Board (cidb)
The cidb, a Schedule 3A public entity, was
established by Act of Parliament (Act 38 of
2000) to promote a regulatory and
developmental framework that builds
construction industry delivery capability for
South Africa’s social and economic growth
and develops a proudly South African
construction industry that delivers to
globally competitive standards. The cidb’s
focus is on sustainable growth, capacity
development and empowerment; improved
industry performance and best practice;
and a transformed industry, underpinned
by consistent and ethical procurement
practices.
The South African Property
Owners Association (SAPOA)
Established in 1966, SAPOA is regarded as an
institution in the South African property
industry. Realising the importance of
ensuring its voice and the voices of those it
represents are heard, SAPOA brings the
concerns and opinions of the property
industry to government and other important
