SA Roofing May 2018 // Issue 100 | Page 3

EDITOR’S COLUMN Celebrating 100 issues with you! I was pleasantly surprised to realise that this is actually the 100th issue of SAR. All this comes by chance as I received the April issue while penning this. Certainly, 100 issues are nothing to scoff at. Successful delivery of issue after issue is all owed to you, our loyal readers, who continue to support the magazine through subscribing, giving us feedback and sharing what happens in your world. This issue is dedicated to you. We appreciate every one of you. Right! All first quarter holidays have passed and its now full steam ahead. The paper chase continues, frankly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s very hard to get inside info about ANYTHING when everyone’s on leave. I’m happy that things are back to normal and I can easily get hold of industry experts. I live for that. In this issue we look at the essential (but not often discussed) aspect of roofing – insulation. Thermal Insulation Products and Systems Association SA (TIPSASA) give us insight on how insulation can work in a waterproofed roof (page 28). Though it is a small industry, it has so much to offer and as one of our readers says roofing is an underrated industry. Contractors and architects are doing incredible stuff within the space – check out our environmentally friendly roof feature on page 18. It spans more than 100m 2 and various professionals share how it can be used to create a greener environment. Projects never fall short of amazing, experts are hired based on experience, qualifications and creativity. Our feature on innovative roof designs (page 22) looks at some architects’ and contractors’ work that has set them up in the industry. Seeing growth from various companies and their continued selfless contribution to the advancement of the industry is really humbling. The loyalty and workmanship I see in the industry means that it continues to thrive.
