Compliments
of the season
W
e’ve made it into 2018 and are happy to see that you
are still standing strong too. The previous year was
really tough for the steel industry and this directly
affected the roofing sector. Let’s start with a clean slate and not
look back but instead look forward, as much hope and
opportunity lie ahead.
As you come across new opportunities, do share them with us.
This is after all your magazine and we are here, ready to share all
your news, insights, projects, innovations and anything else
in between.
2017 saw the increased use of steel. The new headquarters of
property developer, Atterbury, is a masterpiece of steel usage
(page 16)!
The project also displays the flexibility of steel as it is such a
versatile material. Steel is becoming a real trend, and many
believe its popularity will be on the same level as roof trusses.
Green roofs are also slowing taking over the industry, and I am
happy to announce that we’re featuring our first green roof
project located in Zanzibar! Turn to page 14 to see how this green
roof is set to help both the building and its guests.
The industry still has a long way to go when it comes to
integrating transformation related to race and gender and the
South African Council for the Project and Construction
Management Professions (SACPCMP) on page 6 speak directly to
these issues and suggest a way forward.
We can only do more when we work together, when we all
have the same goal to make the industry the best it can be. As we
move towards new opportunities, let our changed mindset
accompany the move as well.
2018 awaits; I’m looking forward to it, I hope you are too.
Let’s go!
