Fostering construction
skills in our youth
The South African Council for the Project and Construction Management
Professions (SACPCMP) is partnering with two construction giants to
foster skills development for unemployed graduates.

he SACPCMP internship programme
will see 200 youths placed on
internship programmes – 100
students from sector education and 100
from the training authority Services Seta –
for one year.
So far, Probuild has taken 10 interns and
Steffanuti Stocks has secured 50
unemployed graduates as part of the work-
integrated learning (WIL) programme.
“This collaborative partnering effort,
jointly with these local construction
companies, is pivotal to ensure that there is
the much-needed skills development
through enticing young graduates to the
construction industry.
“More importantly, this can also be
viewed as a prelude to addressing the
scarce skills shortage that is generally
prevalent in the management of
construction functions and activities within
the local construction industry," says
Jimmy Modise, the executive in charge of
the programme.
