EDITOR’S COLUMN
#Hope: it’s in the air
W
e’re steadily easing into the
year and – so far – things are
looking better, economically
– all thanks to recent political changes that
received thumbs up from financial
institutions and various corporates.
Phew finally, a sigh of relief filled with
hope and positive prospects. I’m happy to
see optimism flowing once again
throughout the industry. The KZN
Construction Expo (page 6) highlighted this
by hosting exhibitors, training programmes
and visitors keen on uplifting the
construction sector in the province.
It’s always fascinating to see innovative
projects go up and enhance the users
experience of the building. I never get tired
of seeing this! Who would’ve thought that a
filling station could create a more inviting
environment just by adding light
architecture? Danpal tells us more about
this on page 26 and we feature one of their
recent projects to be rolled out to all Total
SA filling stations (page 15). Its incredible to
finally see the human aspect being
considered; it is more than just bricks
and mortar.
As a niche market, the industry does
suffer being either neglected or under
catered for, especially when it comes to
skills and training programmes. We have a
look at this on page 18 and find out what
potential roof experts can study and where
they can go for the qualifications.
As new information is published and
shared, pleading ignorance can no longer
be an excuse. Many of you may be aware
that we are also available online at:
www.buildingafrica.co.za as well as on
LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Follow us,
share, like, retweet and engage with us
there as well. We do love to hear from you.
You are my hope. I get all sorts of excited
when I receive your feedback, good or bad.
Siyabonga to Siyabonga Dilimeni from
Tjeka who contacted us on Twitter and I
found out he’s a great source of information
for many things in the industry! I’m steadily
finding my feet too.
Let’s keep #positive.
