Q & A GIB INSURANCE BROKERS
What are some of the biggest shifts you’ re seeing in the insurance space right now?
Our investment strategy is now clearly focused on two pillars: people and technology. We’ re looking to use AI to drive operational efficiency – freeing our experts to focus on what they do best: delivering trusted advice.
In the direct and small commercial markets, clients expect fast, mobile-first service. But in the corporate space, the demand for hands-on, advice-led broking remains strong. That’ s why our approach is simple: advice is led by people, empowered by AI. Technology enhances speed and precision, but it’ s our people who bring the insight, empathy, and judgement that clients value.
We’ re backing this with action – like our recent INSETA grant for AI courses offered to youth entering the working world. AI, like email, is becoming indispensable. But it’ s here to complement, not replace, human capability.
The key is knowing your client and delivering service their way.
In a sector where trust is everything, how do you ensure clients feel supported, especially as more services move online?
Client expectations are evolving – and so must we. Some, like Gen Z, want fast, mobile, AI-driven service with minimal human interaction. Others, especially corporate clients, still value face-toface presentations and tailored advice from trusted advisors.
The key is knowing your client and delivering service their way. At GIB, our strength lies in doing both: offering seamless digital solutions for those who want speed and simplicity, and in-depth, hands-on advisory for those who need strategic guidance.
Digitisation is essential, but it’ s not a replacement for people. It’ s a tool that enhances how we deliver advice – efficiently, intelligently, and on the client’ s terms.
As risks become more complex – economic pressure, climate events, cyber threats – how do GIB clients stay protected?
In a fast-changing global risk landscape, staying ahead starts with continually upskilling our people. It’ s not just about technical training; it’ s about building deep, sector-specific expertise. Understanding a client’ s business, whether in mining, agriculture, or renewables, is what enables us to deliver relevant, high-impact advice.
At GIB, we pair this expertise with innovation. We work closely with global markets to shape solutions for emerging risks – cyber, environmental, or political – often helping to innovate insurer offerings where none existed before. Ultimately, our role goes beyond insurance. It’ s about risk management, resilience, and readiness. In uncertain times, clients turn to us not just for cover, but for clarity.
In your opinion, what kind of leadership approach drives long-term success in this industry?
Our success is rooted in a culture of trust, agility, and empowerment. By flattening our structure, we enable fast, collaborative decision-making, ensuring our teams respond quickly and effectively to client needs.
Empowered teams think beyond their roles. They collaborate across specialisations, innovate together, and stay focused on delivering value. This inclusive and cross-functional mindset drives agility and innovation from the inside out. Ultimately, our clients benefit most. They receive responsive, tailored solutions from a business built on trust, teamwork, and a shared commitment to their success.
What are your key focus areas for growth over the next few years, and where do you see new opportunities emerging?
Over the next few years our growth strategy will focus on four key areas: expanding our Pan-African footprint by leveraging our broker network across 35 + countries and deepening local partnerships; strengthening our position as the preferred broker for international businesses operating in Africa through global alliances; accelerating the integration of AI to enhance advisory capabilities and operational efficiency; and continuing to invest in specialisation and selective acquisitions to deepen our sector expertise. These priorities reflect our commitment to delivering smarter, faster, and more relevant solutions, ones anchored in innovation, regional insight, and a client-first mindset. ■
