Why zinc galvanising matters for South Africa’ s infrastructure
IZA Africa highlights how zinc galvanising protects steel from harsh coastal corrosion, extending service life and supporting durable, sustainable infrastructure across key sectors.
The International Zinc Association( IZA) Africa emphasises the significance of zinc galvanising technology in preventing corrosion, a natural process that weakens steel structures and components across South Africa, particularly along the coast.
Extractive metallurgy converts mineral ores into pure metals like iron, zinc, aluminium, and tin. However, corrosion causes metals to revert to their original mineral state when exposed to oxygen and other environments. Galvanising with zinc offers an effective solution by applying a metallurgically bonded zinc coating to steel surfaces.
