PROJECT dhk Architects dhk Architects has completed its ambitious redevelopment of the Longkloof Precinct in Gardens, Cape Town, for Growthpoint Properties. The project – a careful balance of adaptive reuse and new build – demonstrates how heritage and contemporary design can coexist in dialogue, reshaping an urban environment with sensitivity and purpose.
Concept and vision
Located on the edge of Cape Town’ s CBD, the 16,500m ² site comprises six erven and five historic buildings, including a former school designed by Sir Herbert Baker ' s studio. When Growthpoint acquired the area, it lacked cohesion, had minimal street frontage, limited access, and large areas designated for surface parking.
dhk’ s vision was to replace disconnection with integration. By creating a secure yet publicly accessible landscaped realm, the precinct now connects seamlessly to the city while unlocking new commercial and social value. www. sabuildingreview. co. za 41
