PROJECT Kevin Lloyd Architects
Form and function in harmony
The design incorporates every detail. Curved façades complement sleek linear brickwork, whilst parasol-style powder-coated aluminium shades provide protection against Durban’ s intense sun.
Extensive glazing and translucent monitors regulate light levels, ensuring bright workspaces while reducing strain on the electricity grid.
Inside, the production lines are built for efficiency. At 9 metres wide, they accommodate advanced snack food machinery, from 24-metre potato chip systems to tandem puffed snack lines.
Flanking these are 6-metre service corridors that facilitate movement, maintenance, and long-term reconfiguration – ensuring flexibility as the client expands operations.
A headquarters that inspires
Equally important was the client’ s request to convert the office space into a headquarters. The administrative wing was designed with spacious interiors, carefully chosen finishes, and thoughtful details that enhance the working environment while retaining functional clarity.
A bold yet sustainable statement
This Durban facility demonstrates how industrial architecture can transcend mere utility. Through features like natural ventilation, daylight optimisation, and adaptable production layouts, it not only satisfies current requirements but also prepares for future demands.
Most importantly, it makes a visual statement that aligns with the client’ s ambitions – a testament to design that blends identity, efficiency, and sustainability. ■
