EDITOR’ S COLUMN

Hunting for gold... and everything else

In an ideal world, this time of the year is when things slow down and people start planning their year-end holiday. Alas, we in the publishing world, we’ re running around attending conferences and chasing deadlines. My head is abuzz with those industry experts that we’ ve interacted with for this edition, who’ ve been so forthcoming and informative.

Leanne Govender, sales manager for Affordable Housing at Nedbank, shares how the sector needs to be looked at differently by all invested in its development, and gives her insight on page 30.
Talking about looking at things differently, we featured a green project in the last issue and we’ ve stumbled upon even more projects that are making a difference, affordably of course. Use-It is using an innovative approach by building with soil; check out their story on page 33. We know you have more projects to share, do send us a mail and we’ ll be ready to feature it!
Finding all these wonderful things that the sector is doing leaves me gobsmacked! Why has it taken so long for the industry to receive attention? Who would’ ve thought that going green could be affordable? I mean come on!
We had the pleasure of attending the fourth Annual Housing Africa expo and, boy, did it deliver an abundance of information and expert professionals. Despite a gatecrash from housing activists hungry for shelter, the conference featured speakers who led appropriate conversations towards moving the industry to the next level. Read more about the conference on page 12.
My hands are itching for what is yet to be discovered, as I dig deeper and deeper. A huge part of that lies in your hands, our faithful readers.
Talk to us, it’ s your industry after all. Subscribe to the magazine by completing the subscription request at www. imdonline. co. za. We’ d love to hear your comments and insights. What would you like to see in the magazine?
