PROJECT
energy costs while electricity tariffs continue to rise in
South Africa. Central Developments has introduced several
innovations to its developments to make the homes more
energy efficient and environment-friendly, such as each
unit having its own solar powered water heater sited on the
outside wall, with all lighting being LED to reduce electricity
consumption. Each unit also has a smart meter, and residents
are able to control their electricity consumption while offsite
via an app.
To encourage water efficiency, all toilet cisterns have a
dual flush option, while there are almost no water-hungry
high-maintenance lawns. While its promo describes the
greater Sky City development as, “Surrounded by large
security perimeter walls, the development will also feature
a number of parks as well as recreational facilities like
jogging trails, jungle gyms and soccer fields”, Hlatshwayo
clarifies that the parks and open spaces contain indigenous
vegetation, and the soccer fields at this early stage are
specially-designed dirt fields with the developer looking at
the viability of artificial Astroturf.
There have been innovations in the roofing with precast
slabs. The choice of almost all products, whether plumbing,
electrical or construction materials, is based on their
durability, says Wolmarans.
CENTRAL DEVELOPMENTS
