Hopeful it ’ s a solid 2018
As 2018 is in full swing , there is optimism across the industry that this year will see an uptick in our economy , albeit a slow one . An upward trajectory is better than the stagnation we have seen in many sectors throughout 2017 .
We have seen the strengthening and stabilisation of the rand , the mining sector is showing positive development highlighted at the Mining Indaba during February , and there is a renewed energy in the infrastructure space . All in all , we can be hopeful of a solid year while we continue to service the affordable housing market . There are also new opportunities for the sector as well as increased technology and products to support .
In this issue we look at concrete spalling on page 16 which is a good-to-know item especially due to its importance in construction . We look at some technology advances on page 27 and we also consider efficiency on page 20 .
We look at bad buildings , now referred to as ‘ problem properties ’, on page 24 . Our projects in this issue include the Matlosana social housing development on page 32 and the Urbika Urban Lifestyle Estate that offers residents a safe space that allows them to live , play , learn and grow on page 30 .
