He continues, “The aim of the Social Housing Framework
was to service a market which is not catered for within
open market accommodation and BNG (RDP)
developments. By expanding the Social Housing
Framework, the Department of Human Settlements aims at
catering for low income earners that aren’t necessarily
catered for because of low affordability.”

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
Matlosana Gardens, once complete, is the result of a
strategic partnership between an IHS managed Fund and
Instratin Properties. This multi-storey social housing
development is one of the first ODA projects approved by
SHRA, with a development cost of R390-million and
comprises 1 168 units ranging from bachelor units to one-,
two- and three-bedroom apartments. The first 480 units
were released for occupancy over phases starting
December 2017 through to March 2018. If all goes
according to plan, the balance of the units will be released
for occupation in May 2018.
