Agrément SA is one of the bodies that assesses and certifies building materials.
"Traditional building materials and
their methodology have been
around for a long time."
there are quite a few inferior IBT products that have been brought into the
market that are unsuitable and have failed dismally.
Horwood adds, “The Western Cape government says that in 2018, 30% of
their budget for construction is going to be extended to IBTs. This is a major step
because for the first time IBTs can be delivered and promoted by providing a
percentage of budgets, I think that is a great step and now we’ll see the
technology growing.”
IBTs will be a leading method in years to come. Technology today is different;
sourcing information is easier and quicker. We can now build a 350m 2 double-
storey super structure in under two weeks. “Using a simple knock test, you can’t
tell the difference between an IBT building and a traditional building. Significant
time and cost savings together with the advantages provided by a thermally
efficient building, which provides environmentally friendly living and is largely
recyclable, will hold sway,” Horwood concludes.
