“ Baseball: America’ s Preoccupation”
October 10 was the triumphant day for the St. Louis Cardinals, winning the final game of the World Series as they beat the New York Yankees 4-3. However, the whole series wasn’ t just the game of baseball. Let’ s take a look at how the game impacted our economy. by Faul Boll
For starters, the entire series itself accumulated over thirty-million dollars! Ticket and food sales skyrocketed before, during, and after the match. However, since the MLB Administration prevented people of color being admitted, this took a toll on the overall American production. In particular, African-American workers who were denied admittance, found themselves angry at the association. Doc Burnley, head of Workers of America Association, reported that“ … over fifty machines in major factories across America were smashed” in protest.
