Dylan Roofus is a respected businessman from our very own New York City. He joined the Ku Klux Klan in 1924, and says“ It was the best decision of my life.” He invited us to his New York City apartment for some civilized jazz and conversation. [ The following interview is only lightly edited for clarity.]
White: Tell us a little about yourself. Roofus: W ell I’ m just a simple man, trying to do the right thing. I was so lost before I joined the Klan, see? All I had were my two cars, family, and my three apartments. But now, I’ m feeling great. I found a brotherhood of friends. We come from all backgrounds, jobs, lives, we’ re all united for something bigger than ourselves. To me, this organization is really the great equalizer. W: You mean to say anyone can join? That’ s incredible. R: You’ re on the trolley now, sir. W: I think I’ ll ask for all those interested out there, including me [ chuckles ] if someone wanted to join the Klan, where would we start? R: W ell, Mr. W hite, a great place to start w ould be one of our marches. We just had one down in Washington just last year with about a million people.
