Hydrangeas explained
Ever wonder why there are different coloured
hydrangeas?
The beauty about the Hydrangea Macrophylla
(aka mopheads and lacecaps) is that you
have the ability to control the colour which is
determined by the acidity/alkalinity of the soil.
Put it simply, the more acidic your soil is (pH 5
or less), the bluer your hydrangeas will be. On
the opposite end of the spectrum, by making
the soil more alkaline (climbing towards pH 7+),
your hydrangeas will turn to a mauve/pink hue.
Now is the perfect time to prepare your
hydrangeas for Summer. Head to Bunnings
and get your hands on Manutec’s Hydrangea
Fertilisers for both blue and pink hues, or Yates’
Liquid Sulfur Soil Acidifier only to enhance blue
hydrangeas.
Remember to keep treating the soil, it may take
a few months to get any change in colour!
