Rutland Boys Hockey Preview
A
combination of youth and low numbers
could translate into a tough Division I
campaign for the Rutland High School
boys hockey team.
The Raiders have five freshmen, seven soph-
omores and just one senior out of a roster of 19
players that includes three goalies.
“We’re very young. It’s going to be a learning
experience, that’s for sure, ” coach Chris Creed
said. “We’re a little lacking bulk and we’re not
very fast. ”
He said the Raiders will have to lean on soph-
omore Eric Brewer and juniors Noah Crossman
and Ben Simpson for offense, while freshmen
Dillon Moore and Ryan Melen have looked good.
“There’s not a lot of older firepower this year, so
goals will be at a premium, ” he said.
The good news is that his second-year players
got good experience last winter.
“Of the sophomores that are back, the major-
ity of them played for us last year, so they’re one
year older, ” Creed said. “All of the defensemen are
back except one. ”
Junior Drew Patterson heads up that defensive
corps, along with classmate Jasen Fitzgerald and
sophomores Joe Gides, Eren Cetin and Mattingly
Colvin, as well as freshman Owen Simpson.
Other returning forwards include sophomores
Ethan Coarse, Joel Muscatello and Matt Creed,
along with junior Tyan Hayford.
Lone senior Glen Mandel returns between
the pipes for the Raiders and is backed by junior
Shailer Evans and freshman Augie Louras.
